Caliber, State Farm, Municipal Emergency Services and Hurst Jaws of Life Hosted First Responders for Education Event to Demonstrate How to Extricate People from Today’s Advanced Vehicles on June 12

JEFFERSON, GA (June 23, 2023) – First responders from Jackson County area fire departments donned their rescue gear recently for a hands-on demonstration of the latest techniques in emergency vehicle extrication. The demonstration prepares them to provide the best response for car accident victims in the Jefferson area all thanks to Caliber, State Farm, HURST Jaws of Life and the National Auto Body Council® F.R.E.E.™ program.

Jackson County Fire Training Center hosted local first responders at a special NABC F.R.E.E.™ education and guidance program on June 12 to ensure area drivers have the best-prepared response in case of an accident.

Today’s vehicles are equipped with numerous airbags, advanced technology and innovative safety systems that keep drivers safer in case of an accident. However, these same safety advantages make it harder for first responders to rescue those drivers and passengers. Add to that the potential challenges presented by electric and hybrid engines, and first responders need a whole new arsenal of rescue tools and procedures.

The National Auto Body Council® First Responder Emergency Education (F.R.E.E.™) program helps prepare local first responder teams to rescue accident victims from these late-model vehicles. The program provides education and live demonstrations on working with high-strength steel, airbags, advanced restraint systems, onboard technology and safety around alternative fuel vehicles. Since it was founded, it has provided education for more than 5,000 first responders.

“Caliber is proud to support our first responders who heroically protect and serve our communities by participating in training and educational opportunities such as the NABC’s First ResponderExtrication Education® program,” said Matt Kessinger, Vice President of Operations for Caliber Collision. ”As one of the nation’s largest automotive services providers,  this program aligns with and further embodies our purpose of  Restoring the Rhythm of Your Life® for our customers, teammates, clients and our neighbors here in Jackson County and across the country.”

State Farm provided the vehicles, Municipal Emergency Services and HURST Jaws of Life supplied the classroom education and extrication demonstration.
