PORT CHARLOTTE, FL (December 11, 2025) – On Wednesday, December 10, with the USS Constellation as a backdrop, a veteran of the United States Army and active-duty U.S. Navy Petty Officer received life-changing gifts— fully refurbished vehicles that will enable them to continue building their path to success.  The donations were made possible by the NABC Recycled Rides® program, vehicle donor and event sponsor USAA and repair partners Collision Works and Kenwood Auto Body.

The presentation took place at the historic Inner Harbor in Baltimore adjacent to one of America’s most famous ships, the USS Constellation.  The recipients were nominated by the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society and the American Legion as part of a week of activities leading up to the 126th Army-Navy Football Game.

Robert Griffin the III, former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL Quarterback, was on hand to perform a ceremonial coin toss to determine which car would be unveiled first. Both of Griffin’s parents are U.S. Army veterans.

“The bottom line is football is such a blessing for all of us; it has brought us out her today,” said Griffin. “This rivalry between Army and Navy is truly special. It also gives us an opportunity to recognize special people who give up everything to help us have the freedom we have every day.”

A 2025 Chevrolet Trax RS, donated by USAA and refurbished by the technicians at Collision Works of Glen Burnie, was presented to Navy Petty Officer First Class Jamil Lewis.  Lewis is a single father of four young children.  He balances all their appointments, medical needs, education and more as the sole provider for his children, all while maintaining his service with the United States Navy to support them.  Without reliable transportation, simply getting his children to and from daycare, school, and after-school programs is an enormous hurdle. Lewis often relies on public transportation, rideshares, or the generosity of friends and colleagues, all of which are unreliable, time-consuming and costly.  These factors can lead to missed school days, late arrivals, and disruptions in his children’s routines.  This refurbished vehicle from USAA and the NABC Recycled Rides® program will alleviate immense stress to Lewis and his family, improve their access to essential services, and enhance their overall well-being.

“I am so excited for this car, it’s definitely a blessing,” said recipient Jamil Lewis.  “It’s a bigger car for me and my four kids.  A lot more space, more than my little 2008 Subaru.  This is everything, thank you to everybody involved.”

A 2025 Chevrolet Trax RS, donated by USAA and refurbished by the technicians at Kenwood Auto Body, was presented to U.S. Army veteran Patrick Huber.  He served in Afghanistan and Iraq as a member of the United States Army National Guard.  Upon returning home, Huber found it hard to sustain employment while dealing with stress caused during his military service and in earlier life.  Despite these challenges, he has worked tirelessly to rebuild his life.  Huber continues VA programs to improve his mental health and maintains his physical fitness, even returning to jiu-jitsu after serious back injuries.  Huber now has an opportunity for a new beginning.  He has been accepted into a radiology program located 85 miles round-trip from his home.  Reliable transportation is critical for him to attend classes and continue his recovery and progress toward a meaningful new career. Huber is doing everything he can to move forward while continuing to give back.  This refurbished vehicle from USAA and the NABC Recycled Rides® program will give him reliable transportation to pursue his education and medical care.  Huber is deeply deserving of this opportunity to move forward with the stability and confidence that reliable transportation will provide.

“I went through a lot of personal struggles and a lot of my life I feel like I wasted, now I get a new start, and this is really going to help,” said recipient Patrick Huber.  “Now that I’m getting ready to start school again, I’ll be able to travel and not worry about the problems my current vehicle has, it’ll be able to restart my future, and I can’t thank everybody enough.”
