PORT CHARLOTTE, FL (August 21, 2025) – On Thursday, August 21, a South Florida mother of three received a life-changing gift—a fully refurbished vehicle that will enable her to get to work and care for her children.  The donation was made possible by the NABC Recycled Rides® program, vehicle donor GEICO and repair partner Crash Champions, an I-CAR Gold Class repair facility.

The vehicle, a 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport SE, was generously donated by GEICO and refurbished by the technicians of Crash Champions of South Miami.

Eva Alvarado de Galvez being presented with her NABC Recycled Rides vehicle

Eva Alvarado de Galvez is a remarkable employee of the Arc of South Florida and a married mother of three wonderful children.  Her eldest son, has been diagnosed with developmental disabilities, prompting Alvarado de Galvez to enroll him in the early intervention program at The Arc of South Florida when he was two years old.  Since then, she has actively participated as a volunteer in the program.  However, she has faced transportation challenges since her vehicle became disabled, forcing her to walk to school with her children or rely on public transportation.  Her husband must use another older vehicle for his daily commute, which is approximately 25 miles from their home.  For Alvarado de Galvez, the NABC Recycled Rides® vehicle will be make life much easier for her and her family.  It will allow her to have a safe commute to work and ensure that her children can make it to school.  It will also give Alvarado de Galvez the transportation needed to take her son to his medical appointments and therapies.

Alvarado de Galvez was nominated for the NABC Recycled RidesÒ program by The Arc of South Florida, who continue to act as the voice for all persons in South Florida with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“Eva is a dedicated associate with The Arc of South Florida, and lots of times the staff members as well as the clients have their own needs, and they come on board not only to contribute, but also looking for that support from the Arc,” said Orlyn Martin of Crash Champions.  “We look forward to many more of these events and thank GEICO and Enterprise for their partnership.  It’s an honor to be part of this event with The Arc, the National Auto Body Council…again the work you do is amazing, and we are here with you guys.”

“Receiving this vehicle has been a dream of mine and now I can take my family out in it,” said Alvarado de Galvez.  “Sometimes it has been impossible with the lack of transportation and with her means, but having this transportation now will help her do something with them on the weekends.  I’m really thankful to everyone and to God.”

GEICO, a Level One partner of the National Auto Body Council®, has donated more than 1,000 vehicles to people and organizations through NABC Recycled Rides, making it the largest car donor partner of NABC Recycled Rides.
