PORT CHARLOTTE, FL (May 21, 2026) – On Thursday, May 21, a Durham, NC single mother received the gift of reliable transportation—this beautifully refurbished vehicle was gifted to her as she works to overcome job loss, homelessness and build a better future for herself and her young daughter.  The presentation was hosted by Pinnacle Financial Partners in conjunction with the NABC Recycled Rides® program, vehicle donor Allstate and repair partner Gerber Collision Durham-Chapel Hill.

Pinnacle Financial Partners hosted the presentation as part of the opening celebration of their new Pinnacle Financial Partners PEER Center in Durham, NC.

“Pinnacle has been partners with the National Auto Body Council for about five years and being able to provide opportunities like this is great for Pinnacle,” said Alan Scrimager, Senior Lending Officer, Pinnacle Financial Partners.  “We’re able to give back to the community and that’s what we’re charged with doing.  The opening of this PEER Center today and the gifting of this vehicle makes such a community impact that we couldn’t do it alone and we have to have great partners like the National Auto Body Council.”

A fully refurbished 2016 Toyota RAV 4, donated by Allstate and refurbished by the professionals at Gerber Collision & Glass, was gifted to Lidia Diaz, who was nominated by Families Moving ForwardShe is a dedicated college-educated single mother of an elementary‑aged daughter, who has worked tirelessly to rebuild stability after facing tremendous challenges.  During this time, she demonstrated remarkable resilience—completing a phlebotomy certification and partnering with Families Moving Forward to secure permanent housing and one‑time rental assistance through the Rapid Rehousing program.  She continued pushing forward—working two part‑time jobs and finally securing a full‑time role after dozens of interviews.  This refurbished vehicle from the NABC Recycled Rides® program will allow her to keep the income she earns as a rideshare driver, reliably commute between jobs, maintain childcare, and continue stabilizing her family’s life after an incredibly difficult journey. She has proven her determination and work ethic at every step, and this support will meaningfully accelerate her path toward lasting independence.

“I am very thankful to be here today, thankful to all the partners, for Pinnacle, for NABC, Allstate, Gerber, and Families Moving Forward, for coming together and making this happen today,” said recipient Lidia Diaz.  “This vehicle is the last thing I needed to continue moving forward, go to work, school and doctor’s appointments.  I am so happy and thank you to all the partners who have done so much for me.”

Additional partners in this presentation include: LKQ, Kent Automotive, PPG, Copart, Advanced Remarketing Services, Enterprise and Cars for Charity.
