PORT CHARLOTTE, FL (September 18, 2026) – On Tuesday, September 15, a Phoenix area mother received a once in a lifetime gift—the donation of a beautifully refurbished vehicle to help her maintain employment and ensure her son continues to attend his high school. The donation was made possible by the NABC Recycled Rides® program, vehicle donor GEICO, and repair partner Maaco, part of the Driven Brands family of automotive brands.
The presentation was made at the Maaco located in Tempe, AZ. The recipient was nominated by Family Promise of Greater Phoenix. Family Promise helps families facing homelessness by providing secure, stable housing through safe shelter, caring connections, and a community of support.
A 2019 Honda Accord, donated by GEICO and refurbished by the technicians at Maaco of Tempe, was presented to Shemeka Rosa.

“After working with NABC Recycled Rides® for the past five years, the feeling of giving back never gets old,” said Jake Brown of Maaco. “This is why we do what we do, to support our community and, most importantly, to make a meaningful difference in the lives of families. Being able to bring our teams together and give everyone an opportunity to be part of something bigger than their day-to-day work is something we truly value. Seeing the excitement and gratitude of a family receiving a vehicle makes all the hard work worth it. It’s a reminder of why giving back to our community is so important to us.”
Rosa recently graduated from the Family Promise shelter program with a new job and an apartment. Before she came into the program, Rosa had recently lost her job, was evicted from her apartment, lost her vehicle and the family broke up. Consequently, she and her son became unhoused and had nowhere to go. Family Promise helped provide housing, food and employment. It has been an absolute struggle for the Rosa family trying to manage school and employment without transportation. This NABC Recycled Rides® vehicle will allow Rosa’s son to stay at his current high school and graduate next year. It will give them the stability needed to stop the cycle of homelessness and poverty.
Those in the community can support this life-changing program in two ways – donate to the program directly or donate their unwanted or non-running vehicle through the Changing and Saving Lives Keys for Change program. They will receive a tax donation for their contribution, and proceeds will help provide reliable transportation for those in need across the country – and in their community.
Additional partners in this presentation include: Simply Joyful Baked Goods, Toy Doc Auto, Advanced Remarketing Services, Cars for Charity, Copart and Enterprise.
