PORT CHARLOTTE, FL (August 20, 2025) – On Wednesday, August 20, a South Florida woman in need received a life-changing gift—a beautifully refurbished vehicle that will enable her to get to work and care for her ailing mother and son.  The donation was made possible by the NABC Recycled Rides® program, vehicle donor GEICO and repair partner Crash Champions, an I-CAR Gold Class repair facility.

The vehicle, a 2023 Chevrolet Equinox LT, was generously donated by GEICO and refurbished by the technicians of Crash Champions in West Palm Beach, FL.

“This was our eighth NABC Recycled Ride that we have done at this facility…we do them because the recipients are very much in need of them,” said Gary Swanson, Equipment Manager for Crash Champions corporate team. “It’s a privilege and honor to be part of the program and we’ll keep doing them as long as we can.  We appreciate the partnership with NABC Recycled Rides, as well as GEICO and Enterprise.  It’s truly an honor to be part of this program.”

Miguelina Disla migrated from the Dominical Republic to the United States in 2013.  She worked diligently to petition for her son, Miguel, reuniting with him a year later.  After joining The Arc of South Florida, she has become an exceptional teacher’s assistant, known for her strong work ethic, punctuality, and respectful demeanor.  After her mother began showing signs of dementia, Disla became her primary health giver, all while balancing a full-time job and caring for her son, who has a developmental disability.  For Disla, the NABC Recycled Rides® vehicle will be make life much easier.  It will allow her to get to work and church, without the added stress of searching for transportation while she takes care of her mother and son.

Disla was nominated for the NABC Recycled RidesÒ program by The Arc of South Florida, who continue to act as the voice for all persons in South Florida with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“This is incredible, God has made this possible,” said Disla. “I have prayed for a vehicle because I did not have the means to purchase one and all of a sudden, I got approved.  I want to thank everyone with NABC Recycled Rides®, Crash Champions, GEICO and Enterprise and may God bless all of you.  And may He continue to bless you for all this work you are doing.”
