PORT CHARLOTTE, FL (August 2, 2024) – A single mother of two young children from Cleveland was escorted to the Columbus area for a special ceremony, a life-changing event – the presentation of a vehicle to provide her independence and the ability to support her family – thanks to the National Auto Body Council Recycled Rides® program along with car donor GEICO and collision repair partner Gerber Collision & Glass-Westerville.
On August 1, NABC®, GEICO and Gerber Collision & Glass presented a fully refurbished 2019 VW Jetta to Key’aira Bray, who ended up in the shelter system after losing her job and her home while expecting her second child. She was able to relocate into her own housing with the assistance of the Cleveland Rapid Rehousing Program. She has gained stable employment and will begin a phlebotomy training program soon. The NABC Recycled Rides® donated car will allow Key’aira to transport herself and young children to and from work and school, plus give her access to more housing options and employment opportunities.
NABC Recycled Rides® is a unique program in which businesses representing all facets of the collision repair industry team up to repair and donate vehicles to individuals and families in need of reliable transportation. Since the inception of the NABC Recycled Rides® program in 2007, members of the National Auto Body Council® have donated more than 3,300 vehicles valued at some $47 million.
“It’s so nice to be able to give a vehicle to somebody who really deserves it,” commented Adam Powers, general manager of the Gerber Collision shop that fully refurbished the donated vehicle. “When we realize their story, it just makes us feel so good to be involved.”
Additional partners in the NABC Recycled Rides® presentation included PG, Classic Volkswagen of Madison, Byers Volkswagen, AutoZone, Maynard’s Towing, 1-800 Charity Cars, Copart and Enterprise.
