PORT CHARLOTTE, FL  (August 21, 2024) – A single head of family experienced a life-changing event –the presentation of a vehicle to provide her independence and the ability to take care of her family’s needs – thanks to the National Auto Body Council Recycled Rides® program along with car donor American Family Insurance and repair partner Gerber Collision & Glass-Milwaukee Douglas Avenue.

NABC®, American Family and Gerber presented a fully refurbished 2022 Corolla to Karli Mireles before the first pitch when the Milwaukee Brewers took on the Los Angeles Dodgers on August 12.

Karli Mireles had experienced homelessness and came to Family Promise of Washington County for shelter. With their support, she has worked hard to improve her situation, and has been able to obtain full-time employment. Her employer is even working with her for an upcoming promotion to office manager.  Family Promise has also assisted in her search for permanent housing and for a vehicle. Thanks to American Family, Gerber Collision & Glass, and the NABC Recycled Rides® program, this gift of reliable transportation will allow her to continue on her path to self-sufficiency and reunite with her daughter. Karli is a great example of what can be achieved through persistence and a positive attitude, working her way back to independence and a better life for her and her family.

“We do a small thing, but it makes a massive change in someone’s life,” said Chris Zdroik, general manager of Gerber Collision & Glass. “This is our third year donating a car through NABC Recycled Rides®, and I think that everyone here feels great about helping someone get on a path to build their future.  I’m proud that we do this.”

Additional partners in the NABC Recycled Rides® presentation included Cars for Charity, Advanced Remarketing Services and Copart.
